This August, UMA Gallery is taking it to the Grand Gallery in Jack London. Their goal is to keep the spirit going in small and unusual places, featuring politically relevant shows and exhibiting work that reflects our current reality.
And so it is with STATE OF THE UNION, a dystopian show with a touch of humor. (Because, yes, if we don’t find some type of humor in this ultimately absurd moment, we’ll all spiral into a black hole the size of Texas.)
Excited to bring back some of my favorite artists, Diane Komater, Paulette Traverso, and ReTech.
Their visionary work has made this show possible. I keep thinking of Kurt Vonnegut, who alluded to artists being canaries in the coal mines because they’re supersensitive. “They keel over like canaries in coal mines filled with poison gas, long before more robust types realize that any danger is there.”
